this is the odd thing, everybody said paul ryan's a numbers guy. well, no, he's not, because first off, if he was shocked that the president, a democrat, did well in urban areas, he hasn't been following politics for the last hundred years. but he also, i looked up a couple of interesting counties that i like to look at. dubuque, iowa, they filmed the movie "field of dreams" there. barack obama won. he won henrico county, a very classic suburban county in virginia which is the home of eric cantor, the republican house majority leader, and in wisconsin, get this, barack obama overwhelmingly won rock county, wisconsin, which -- whose biggest town in janesville which is paul ryan's hometown and home county. i have been there, i have walked the gritty streets of janesville. it's not actually all that urban. and how can he be this dumb is the only question i've got. >> alex, congressman ryan's comments miss the point on why he and mitt romney lost? >> no. it's ridiculous. this is one of the keys you look at and we were all looking at election night, was

paul ryan makes a good point, though. i do agree. i don't think the president has a mandate per se but a lot of political capital. just depends how he wants to spend it and the republicans, if they don't want to risk being insignificant for the next four years they need to come to the table with some honest, tough solutions and try and compromise on some issues as does the president and we can get this country moving forward. that's what's been lacking for the last four years, president obama has a well-noted disdain for the process and he has to come to the table with some of these folks and use some of that political capital he did gain in that re-election. >> the last word. >> one quick point, hogan, the majority of americans actually voted for democratic candidates, not republican candidates in the house of republicans and it's only because of gerrymandering that republicans actually have control. if you look at states like north carolina, most of the people in north carolina actually voted for democratic house members, but repub

can you lose paul ryan? i think almost anyone who wants to run for president in '16 is going to vote against this on the republican side. and so the question is, you know, who do you need? and i don't think you absolutely need paul ryan. but in the end, i think he'll vote for what's passed even with tax increases. >> speaking, as long as we're on the house as opposed to the senate, do you hear anything nancy pelosi is going to have a news conference, a press conference, later today? what do you think she's going to do? any word? >> i have no idea. no idea. >> thank you for your honesty. go get me a cup of coffee. >> did you watch this program yesterday? debbie wassermann schultz said she's staying. most of the people i talk to say she's staying. i think her body language yesterday when she was sparring with the press a little bit suggest she's staying. and if we're wrong, i won't be here tomorrow. >> let's go back to congressman ryan and his comments. the interesting thing that president obama did yesterday,

paul ryan, he doesn't apparently want to admit rally or look at the exit polls. i understand it was an ugly day on november 6th. republicans don't like looking at the exit polls. not only did the president campaign on this more vociferously than anything else. you could claim a mandate on that basis. two-thirds of the country believes in raising rates. not only do you have him campaigning on it and winning on it, be you have at the exit polls. >> look at those numbers, 47% think there should be an increase only on income over 250 k higher earpers, 35% no increase for anyone, 13% for all. so add 47 plus 13 is 60. >> that's a 60% issue. that math is right on in the uny. >> and in florida they tried to float a 20% corporate income tax break, the republican dominated legislature put it on the ballot and the people in florida rejected that soundly. >> the second thing i'll say that jonathan is right and your point about this, i don't think it's a repudiation of what john boehner said, the president is learning thou negotiate. one of the things that the left has critic
